to' oo от, '/А/<эо EXCERPTS FROM REMARKS MADE TO HENRICO HIGH SCHOOL SENIOR CONVOCATION 9:15 A.M. NOVEMBER 1, 1990 HENRICO HIGH SCHOOL AUDITORIUM RICHMOND, VIRGINIA BY GOVERNOR L. DOUGLAS WILDER Thank you. Mr. Bosher, Ms. Johnson, and "Oh-June-Can't- Come-Soon-Enough" members of the Henrico Class of 1991, I'm pleased to have this opportunity to be here this morning to share this special moment with you. As your parents and others have probably told you, senior year is a special time in any individual's life. Although you will carry memories of your 12 years of schooling with you for the rest of your lives, I can assure you that the events of this particular year will be among your most vivid and most cherished. Years from now, you will recall the football games .... indeed , some of the BEST football games seen and played by any high school in this entire state. You will recall Homecoming; Christmas vacation; the snow days; the prom; and that first summer-like day when you can smell and feel graduation in the air. In years to come, you will remember the friendships; the smiles; the ups and the downs. The guys will remember those girls that they wished they had asked out. . . .and the girls will remember those guys they wished had had the courage tp ask them out. But - as graduation draws closer by the day - I hope that you won't be in such a hurry for this year to become a memory .... that you don't take advantage of all the opportunities that lie before each of you between now.... and that time in June when many of you will be hitting the inviting sands of the beach after graduation. i Inevitably, in the coming months, one or two of you will suffer from a bout or two of "senior it is; " ....that haze which seems to come over students in their last year of school; a haze that tempts you to take short cuts in completing your school work; . . .a haze that lulls you into believing that it doesn't really matter if you take off a few extra days from the school year; . . . .that you can get away with not studying or completing that big project until the "night before;"
